                                              DRAW THE CIRCLE WIDE

Our Mission Statement: As we “Draw the Circle Wide” we affirm our call by Jesus Christ to share the Gospel and be instruments of compassion, social justice and systemic change.

Diversity is a core value of the parish community as can be seen in our ministry, worship life and church membership. As an urban parish we welcome people from varied backgrounds, races, sexual  orientation and education.  “Draw the Circle Wide,” describes our commitment to Christ.

Calvary St. Andrew's Parish is a vibrant Presbyterian congregation located in Rochester's South Wedge neighborhood. Our urban context and our deep faith in Christ’s call for love and justice invites us to be in mission and ministry in the neighborhood, the city of Rochester and the world. As a progressive congregation Biblically and theologically we are not afraid to tackle the hard issues of today’s world such as quality of life for chidlren and adults. Everyone desires to have their basic needs met. Children deserve safe places and a community that teaches and enacts values that make a healthy whole person.We've always combined the strength of tradition with the freedom to question, challenge and change old ways in light of new understanding.

Worship As A Response To God’s Generosity

In response to God’s generosity we celebrate the Sabbath with a spirited worship service at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings. Through fellowship, prayer, a variety of musical styles and selections, we bring our hearts into God’s presence. In the center of the sanctuary is the breath taking stained glass window depicting the women at the tomb as the angle proclaims Jesus' resurrection. Designed by famous artist George Haushalter the window is a testimony to the spirit of Christ's ressurection and hope. The dynamic preaching and heart felt music coupled with the weekly celebration of the Lord’s Supper fill our souls to go out into the world and to better practice our faith. With our Pastor the Reverend Judy Lee Hay, lay people are active leaders in worship service through readings, prayers, music, drama and in serving communion. The whole people of God are invited by Christ to be fed spiritually and to go into the world to be in service. We are a diverse city congregation committed to Christ.

Children are a joyful reminder of Christ’s hospitality to be cherished and welcomed into our midst. The children gather on Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. in the main part of the church for a children’s message then go to their Sunday School classes and rejoin us for the celebration of the Lord’s Supper.

SHAWL MINISTRY

The  CSA Shawl Ministry was founded in September 2006 and  continues to be blessed by God and stands by its commitment to surround it's recipients with comfort,  grace and love.   The focus is to knit shawls to provide special comfort for those going through prolonged medical, personal, and emotional issues.   As a special project to show our love and support of our Sunday School Children, we knitted and sewed warm hats.  These were given out on December 21,2008. Lauren Vicker presented these gifts as part of the children's sermon.  We continue to welcome new members regardless of knitting experience.  We offer to teach and support all first time knitters. The pattern is fairly easy and suitable to a beginner.  Come and join us to find out more about this comforting ministry. They meet the third Tuesday of each month.

Nancy Lauterbach and Vera Mascaro are two members of the Shawl Ministry.

Psalm 150 resonates with God’s generosity and call to praise God in all of life.

1-6 Hallelujah! Praise God in God's holy house of worship,
      praise God under the open skies;
   Praise God for God's acts of power,
      praiseGod forGod's magnificent greatness;
   Praise with a blast on the trumpet,
      praise by strumming soft strings;
   Praise God with castanets and dance,
      praise God with banjo and flute;
   Praise God with cymbals and a big bass drum,
      praise God with fiddles and mandolin.
   Let every living, breathing creature praise God!
      Hallelujah!

YOUTH FELLOWSHIP

Developing Youth leadership in our congregation is an important value. Youth participate in worship, lead prayers, help in coffee hour and assist in liturgy by bringing up the bread and wine for communion. The older youth assist the younger children as role models. The diversity of our youth reflects the changes within our city that embraces the multiple faces of Chirst.
